Iowa Bonsai Association 2011 Calendar

Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month except for December.  All meetings
begin at 7:00 PM at the Des Moines Botanical Center (909 Robert Ray Drive) unless 
notified otherwise, with the exception that the November meeting always begins at 6:30 PM.
Members are encouraged to bring trees for show and tell, to work on, or to get help with after
the scheduled program.  (Remember you may need to bring some tools for this.)  Members
may work on their adopted Botanical Center bonsai trees during meetings.

January 18:  IBA Meeting.

February 15:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Fertilizer: what, when, how and why.  Dave Lowman.

March 15:  IBA Meeting.  Topics:   Quick repotting.  Mike Adams.    Jin and Shari, for looks and 
aesthetics.

April 19:  IBA Meeting.  Topics:  Soil.  Dave Richmond.  Pruning for looks and health.  Helene Magruder.
Collecting trip: group discussion to plan for an IBA group collecting trip.

April 22-23:  2nd Annual Oak Creek Bonsai Show, Nebraska Bonsai Society, Lincoln,
Nebraska.  Friday, 8:00am-6:30; Saturday, 9:30-4:30pm.

May 17:  IBA Meeting. Topic:  Collecting trip preparation.  Larry Totton.  Workshop: Forests.  Bring 
your own tree, soil, and tools; plan to get your hands dirty.  Trees and pots available for sale.


June 14:  IBA Meeting.  Topics:  Disease and pest control; Defoliation.  Max Miller.

July 1:  Entry deadline, IOWA STATE FAIR BONSAI SHOW

July 19:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Tropical bonsai in Iowa: care and repotting.  Ivan Hanthorn.

August 14:  IOWA STATE FAIR BONSAI SHOW.   Agriculture Bldg., Iowa State Fairgrounds,
Des Moines, Iowa.

August 16:  IBA Meeting.   Iowa State Fair trees discussion.  Topic: Major wiring, ribbing, breaking,
bends.

September 20:  IBA Meeting.  Topics: Wintering--care, locations, etc.  Larry Totton and Dave Lowman.
Where to buy bonsai trees and what to look for.  Mike Adams.


October 8-9:  FALL BONSAI SHOW.  Reiman Gardens, Ames, Iowa.  IBA Board Meeting will be held
at 2:30 pm Sunday the 9th at Reiman.  All members not participating in bonsai show activities are 
welcome to attend the Board Meeting.


October 18:  IBA Meeting.  Topic:  Designing and planning the bonsai.  Presenter to be announced.

November 15:  
 IBA Pot Luck Dinner and Annual meeting, and Bazaar.  Annual awards for 2011 and 
election of the new Board of Directors for 2012.  Program: to be announced.

December:   No meeting held in December
