Iowa Bonsai Association 2010 Calendar

Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month except for December.  All meetings
begin at 7:00 PM at the Des Moines Botanical Center (909 Robert Ray Drive) unless 
notified otherwise, with the exception that the November meeting always begins at 6:30 PM.
Members are encouraged to bring trees for show and tell, to work on, or to get help with after
the scheduled program.  (Remember you may need to bring some tools for this.)  Members
may work on their adopted Botanical Center bonsai trees during meetings.

January 19:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Bonsai on the Internet, Mike Adams.
Tree style of the month: Broom style, Max Miller.

February 16:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Collecting Trees, Larry Totton; Pot Selection, Helene Magruder
Tree of the month: Iowa yamadori, Larry Totton, MIke Adams, Ron Heinen.

March 16:  IBA Meeting.  Renew, Refresh & Revitalize.  Come one hour early if possible!  Each tree
in the Botanical Center collection will be analyzed and plans made for its future.  The club commitment
to the Botanical Center bonsai collection will be refreshed and renewed.  Some trees may be repotted.

April 4-5:  SPRING BONSAI SHOW.  Des Moines Botanical Center

April 17-18:  ANNUAL SPRING BONSAI SHOW.  Des Moines Botanical Center

April 20:  IBA Meeting.  Topics: Proper Pruning Techniques for Style and Proper Healing, Rich
Fertilizer
, Mike Adams.

(bring your tools, wire and raffia). Tree of the month: Mulberry,

June 15:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Black Pine work -- carrying out a plan, Ron Heinen & Helene Magruder.

July 1:  Entry deadline, IOWA STATE FAIR BONSAI SHOW

July 20:  IBA Meeting.  Topics: Tropical Trees -- Repotting & Care Discussion, Dave Lowman; Banyan

Any and all tropical trees.  Bring a tropical tree if possible.

August 14:  Jerry Meislik bring-your-own tree workshop, 1-5pm, Magruder Farm.

August 15:  IOWA STATE FAIR BONSAI SHOW.   Agriculture Bldg., Iowa State Fairgrounds,
Des Moines, Iowa.

August 17:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Creating and Carving Jin and Shari, Max Miller & Larry Totton. 
Tree of the month:
Yews, Ron Heinen.  Bring a tree to carve if possible.

September 21:  IBA Meeting.  Topics: Wintering your Trees; Evergreen Care, Bob West and Dave
Lowman.  Tree of the month:
Boxwood.  Bring a boxwood or a winter care challenge.

October 16-17:  FALL BONSAI SHOW.  Reiman Gardens, Ames, Iowa.  IBA Board meeting will be held
at 2:30 pm Sunday the 17th at Reiman.  All members not participating in show activities are welcome to
attend.

October 19:  IBA Meeting.  Topic: Bonsai for Beginners, simple concepts to keep trees alive, general
survival discussion
, Mike Adams.  Tree of the month:
Maple.  Bring a colorful or silhouette tree..

November 16:  IBA Pot Luck Dinner and Annual meeting.  Annual awards for 2010 and 
election of the new Board of Directors for 2011.  Virtual Tour of members' collections
by Ron Heinen.
Library Review:  pick up some winter bonsai reading.

December (no meeting)
